About Rob

Based out of Eugene, Oregon, Rob photographs the ecosystems of the Western United States. During summers he is the fire lookout at Carpenter Mountain, Willamette National Forest, Oregon, USA. Rob grew up in rural Montana and Alaska, served in the U.S. Navy, received a B.A. in Anthropology, was an archaeologist and fought wildfires in the Western United States.

Carpenter Mountain Fire Lookout, Willamette NF, Oregon, USA

Since 2014 Rob has been the fire lookout at Carpenter Mountain on the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest/Willamette National Forest, Mckenzie River Ranger District. His primary job is to watch for smokes and report them to Eugene dispatch.

Wildland Fire Crews in the Western United States

From 1994 to 1999 Rob worked on wildland fire crews while working toward his B.A in Anthropology at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. Rob worked on district engine crews and Hotshot fire crews fighting fires in every state in the Western United States and some Canadian provinces.

Surface Sonar Technician (STG), United States Navy, USA

From 1990 to 1994 Rob served as a Surface Sonar Technician in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW). Rob served two tours in the Persian Gulf and travelled around the Pacific Rim onboard the U.S.S. Princeton (CG-59).

Survey Archaeology Around the Western United States 

After receiving his B.A. in Anthropology Rob worked as a archaeological technician. Rob worked in the field surveying for archaeological sites and documenting them. He worked for the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service and National Park Service in many of the Western states.

Growing Up in Rural Montana and Alaska

Rob’s early years were spent in rural Montana and Alaska, primarily Western Montana in Missoula and outside of Kalispell.
